Bryrupbanestien på 64 km. tager jer igennem små stationsbyer, historiske attraktioner og smuk natur. På trods af at ruten går gennem det bakkede landskab på den midtjyske højderyg, er banestien nem tilgængelig for alle. Den gamle jernbane er gravet ud og udlignet så terrænet er jævnt det meste af vejen. En 5 km. lang tur fra Bryrup til Vrads st. er dog ikke asfalteret, men her er det muligt i sommerperioden at tage cykler med ombord i det gamle veterantog som stadig tøffer igennem det skrånede landskab med søer og skov til alle sider. Da banestien løber i sit eget spor er turen meget børnevenlig, det er kun igennem de mindre byer i kommer på asfalteret vej med biler.
Bryrupbanestien sov godt hos Holmely
Midt på ruten ligger Holmely. Holmely byder på overnatning i anneks, glamping telte, treetop shelter og tema værelser i hovedhuset, det er også muligt at opsætte eget telt.
Overnatning og mad. Sov i en dejlig seng med adgang til vand, bad og toilet. Her kan du også bestille tapas og morgenmad. Læs mere om Holmelys faciliteter her.
Historien
Bryrupbanestien blev anlagt af et privatselskab i 1899, den første del af strækningen gik fra Lund til Bryrup, senere kom strækningen Bryrup Silkeborg med. De største mellemstationer, Brædstrup og Østbirk var allerede voksende byer på inden jernbanen kom til, hvorimod Bryrup i 1899 stort set kun havde en kirke, en skole og en fattiggård.
I stationsbyerne står de gamle stationshuse endnu, bla. den flotte bygning i Brædstrup og den smukke og nostalgiske Vrads St. Her er en liste over trinbræt og stationsbyer (listet fra Horsens mod Silkeborg):
Horsens, Lund, Lundum, Stenbjerg, Østbirk, Vestbirk, Gammelstrup, Tønning, Ring Skov, Brædstrup, Lille Davdingevej, Slagballe (højeste punkt), Vinding Østergård, Vinding, Bryrup, Skånningbro, Vrads, Fogstrup, Korsvej, Them, Virklund, Silkeborg.
Oplevelser under vejs – Start Horsens slut Silkeborg
Østbirk
Velux Naturpark Lige udenfor Østbirk når duften af vådt frisk skåret træ rammer næsen ligger Velux Naturpark. Parken har både til formål at hylde biodiversiteten og bringe mennesker tættere på naturen, og det ligger i en 70.000 kvadratmeter stor skov, som VELUX Gruppen har ejet de sidste 30 år.
Den Genfundne Bro og Gudenåen. Mellem Vestbirk og Brædstrup hvor banestien løber over Gudenåen står Den Genfundne Bro. Broen har siden udgravningen i 2014 været et tilløbsstykke for turister og lokale. Den gamle jernbanebro står højt over den smukke Gudenå, her er borde og bænke hvor frokosten kan nydes. Ikke langt fra broen ligger den gamle Vestbirk vandkraftværk som er det første vekselstrømsværk i Danmark. Værket virker endnu og den smukke bygning knejser stolt over Gudenåen.
Brædstrup. Banestien tager jer midt igennem Brædstrup by, den gamle stations by byder på fine spisesteder og unikke detailbutikker. Her er restaurant, pizzaria – gå lidt op af gaden og besøg Fru Skov med hendes unikke køkken univers inspireret af hendes utallige besøg i Frankrig. Få skridt fra Fru Skov går du ind i Heidis smukke butik med interiør med inspiration fra Spanien. Byen emmer af liv og små behagelige oplevelser. Her står bla. også trolden Jensnej og børnene kan tage på skattejagt i byen vha af Skattekortet som kan findes digitalt her
Veteran banen. I Bryrup har i mulighed for at tage en dukkert i Bryrup Langsø, her er badestrand med børnevenlige badebroer. For uden søen er Bryrup start og endestation for den gamle Veteranbane. Veteranbanen der går mellem Bryrup og Vrads Station, er den sidste rest af den historiske jernbane. Turen med damplokomotivet tager jer igennem smuk natur og fordi søerne Kvindsø, Kulsø og Snabe Igelsø og er ikke for ingenting kaldt Danmarks smukkeste Jernbane. Det er ofte muligt at få cykler med på togene.
Vrads Station. Danmarks mest øde beliggende station. Her mærker du historiens vingesus. Den rød stationsbygning fra 1929 står øde på den jyske hede, her er nemt at forestille sig en fordumstid med rejsende og besøgende til det gamle traktørsted. I dag byder stationsbygningen på en fin restaurant med dansk inspireret mad, frokost, kagebord og ishus. Overfor Vrads Station inde af en grussti findes Put & Take søer.
Falkemanden. Lige før Them ligger Silkeborg ørne reservat. “Falkemanden” alias Falkoner Falkemand Flemming Sanggaard kendt fra Alene i Vildmarken, har opført et stort reservat for bisonokser og store rovfugle. Falkemanden opføre Rovfugleshows det meste af sommeren, find showtider her.
Silkeborg. Ved ankomst til Silkeborg rammer i Silkeborg Bad. Endnu engang mærkes historien vingesus da de gamle bygninger står velbevaret i den fine park. I dag er Silkeborg bad et Kunst center med skiftende udstillinger. Fra Silkeborg Bad er der ikke langt til Arnakkekilden, i kan roligt smage på det strømmende vand fra brønden i midten. Vandet har et højt indhold af mineraler, bla. jern, kalcium og natrium. Jernindholdet ses tydeligt, da det udfældes som okker, og farver omgivelser røde. Silkeborg Bunker Museum holder til ved siden af Silkeborg Bad. Bunkerne var tyskernes militære hovedkvarter i Danmark fra 1943-1945. Det er muligt at udforske bunkerne selv eller tage med på en guided tur. Ikke langt fra bunkerne finder i Stærke Storm. Stærke Storm sidder, hvor han gør, fordi han er utilfreds med at dalens træer er blevet fældet, for det medførte at mange af de andre træer væltede i vinden. Nu sidder Stærke Storm solidt placeret foran de resterende træer og passer godt på dem.
Rute start og parkering
Start turen i Horsens. Visit Horsens anbefaler at parkere ved Fængslet, Hotel Opus, Vestre Kirkegård eller Horsens Golfklub. Eller ved den nye fællesparkering ved motorvejs tilkørslen ved Burger King lige udenfor Lund.

Bryrupbanestien er helt sikkert en flot rute, men at kalde den nem for alle er måske så meget sagt. Det stykke på 5 km ved Vrads uden asfalt kan altså være ret hårdt at cykle på, hvis man har en almindelig racercykel eller børnecykel med smalle dæk, især hvis man ikke lige rammer veterantogets køreplan. Og i højsæsonen er der ofte så mange turister ved Den Genfundne Bro, at det tager lidt af hyggen. Ruten er fin, men man skal altså planlægge det lidt bedre end bare at trille afsted.
